What is Windows Hello?

How do you get a secure pin?

A secure PIN in Windows Hello is created right on your device — and it’s actually more secure than a normal password because it’s tied to the specific hardware chip (TPM) in that PC. It never leaves the computer or syncs to the cloud.

How to set one up:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Accounts

  3. Click Sign-in options

  4. Under PIN (Windows Hello) choose Set up or Add

  5. Create a PIN that’s not guessable — at least 6 digits (longer is better)

  6. You can also choose “Include letters and symbols” to make it even stronger

Why a PIN is safer:

  • It’s device-only — even if someone steals it, it won’t work anywhere else

  • It uses TPM hardware built into most Windows 11 devices

  • It prevents online brute force attacks

So unlike a password that can be leaked, reused, phished, or stolen — your Windows Hello PIN is designed to protect that device, and only that device.

Will I use that same pin every time or will it make a new one for each login?

You will use the same PIN every time on that device.

Windows Hello does not generate a new PIN each login.

Here’s the important part most people don’t realize:

  • Your PIN is unique per device

  • It never leaves that computer

  • Someone can’t use it on another PC, even if they somehow knew it

So it stays the same — but because it’s hardware-bound + TPM protected, it’s still far safer than a normal password.

That’s why Microsoft pushes PINs instead of passwords in Windows Hello.

Can I keep the pin in my password manager?

Yes you can store it there — but it’s not really necessary and you usually won’t need to.

Your Windows Hello PIN is meant to be something short + memorable because you use it daily on that one specific device. It’s not like a complex online banking password that needs to be long, random, or unique across multiple websites.

BUT if you are someone who likes to store ALL credentials in one place so nothing is forgotten… you can put it in your password manager. Just label it clearly as “Local Windows 11 Device PIN” so you never mix it up with your Microsoft Account password.

Best practice summary:

  • You CAN store it in your password vault if you want (not unsafe to do so)

  • You don’t HAVE to — since it’s short, device-only, and doesn’t sync online

  • Still treat it like a secret — don’t share it and don’t leave it written on a sticky note on the monitor (lol)

Most security pros say: “A strong PIN that YOU remember is ideal.”

So, if I login to my computer at work from home, will I use that pin or will I need one for my home computer?

Great question — and this is actually where most people get confused.

The PIN is per device.

So:

  • If you are physically sitting at your work computer, you use the work computer’s PIN.

  • If you are physically sitting at your home computer, you use the home computer’s PIN (if that PC has one set up).

Each Windows 11 device has its own Windows Hello PIN.
You don’t use your work PIN on your home PC and you don’t use your home PIN on your work PC.

Remote Access Example:

If you remote in from home to your work computer (using Remote Desktop, ConnectWise, Splashtop, etc.):

  • You use your home PC’s PIN to sign into your home computer.

  • Then you will sign into your work computer through your remote access method — and that will usually require your work Windows password or your business credential — NOT your PIN.

(Remote access almost always still uses passwords because the cybersecurity platform needs centralized authentication.)

Simple Memory Rule:

Where are you physically sitting?

So — 1 PIN per device.
Passwords still matter for remote authentication + business identity.

 What is “Click To Do”?

“Click to Do” is a simple task feature inside Windows 11’s Microsoft To Do app.

When you see a “Click to do” prompt, Windows is basically offering you quick, easy “one click” action steps — like checking off a task, starting a focus session, adding a reminder, or finishing something you previously started. It’s meant to help you take small actions faster without hunting through menus.

Think of it like Windows saying:

“Here’s a quick thing you can do right now — just click.”

It ties into your Microsoft To Do list, Focus Sessions, and sometimes Outlook tasks — so your daily to-dos and mini actions stay organized in one place and you waste less time digging for where things are.
