Pokémon GO Will Reward Players for Picking up Trash on Earth Day.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd, and the developer of Pokémon GO want players to get involved by picking up trash while they’re out chasing Pokémon. Niantic is partnering with local nonprofit organizations throughout the world, and together they’re hosting cleanups, encouraging players to help make the world a cleaner place.

As of now, 37 cleanup events in different countries are scheduled for Earth Day. There are eight happening in the United States, 23 in Europe, five in Asia, and one off the coast of Africa. All of the information about the events are listed on the website.

If you don’t see a cleanup happening near you, Niantic wants players to suggests other local environmental, non-governmental organizations to participate. You can make suggestions here.
Here are the rewards players can receive if enough people participate:

•1,500 players cleaning up trash: Unlock 2x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon

•3,000 players cleaning up trash: Unlock 3x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon

It’s a great way to get kids involved in helping to clean up the planet, while at the same time having fun and, of course, playing Pokémon GO.
